What an active Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday… I just love food, which is probably no surprise. And in years past my Thanksgiving activities included, watching football, eating way too much, drinking too much, and then deciding I needed a little more to eat.

This year was different. I had a lot of activities going on! Thursday morning I was up and running the Fleet Feet Turkey Trot 8k. It was chilly and wet, but I had a good time. My time wasn’t anything to brag about though. Coach Jen’s instructions were to take it easy for the 1st 2 miles and then to bust my ass the rest… I tried, but I still finished on over 50 mins… Goal Fail.
Ok ok shake it off.
Friday was the 1st EVER Black Friday 5k Run Run and Food Drive. It was a collaborative effort between several ChicagoNow Bloggers, Fleet Feet Sports and Casey Moran’s. We had a great turnout and got a lot of food, clothing and shoes to donate to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, St. Vincent DePaul and Share your Soles! Adam was in town for the holiday so he cam out and ran with me which was a good time. You can read all about the event at Pace of Chicago.
Now comes Saturday. Masters practice was canceled because of the holiday, so Adam and I went for a swim at Xsport. We got in 1,650 yards, but it was painful. I still haven’t felt comfortable swimming yet. Theoretically I should have it down by now. Coach Jen said it would take about 4 weeks. I’m hoping for some magic to happen this week!!!
Sunday I had a 50 min zone 1/zone 2 run on the books. I went to the forest preserve again and ran there, it’s much more tolerable than running around my neighborhood.
Today is a rest day, which I feel like I really need. I could have used a mental rest day, but work wouldn’t allow it.
Tomorrow I’m on the bike trainer for 55 mins… Adam and I started looking for “real” bikes on Friday. We hit up Windy City Trek on Michigan Ave for some test rides. I really have no idea what I’m looking for in a road bike, but I need to figure it out quick! This mountain bike thing can only last so long!
What did you do active over the holiday weekend?

  1. Who got in 2,000 yards? Did you put in a few extra laps while I was in the shower?

You want a Trek Madone 4.5. The people who know say you really want a 4.5…. but I couldn’t really tell much difference. The carbon frame is AMAZING compared to the Aluminum one I have now… I could cut you a GREAT deal on an aluminum frame road bike!
