Chapter 36. Page 1

Today is Page One of 2018 and I think it’s time to dust this blog off… its musty in here.

This is just going to be a quick run down of the plans for my season and the future of this page.

It’s the beginning of a new year and like most people, I tried to set big goals and make lifestyle changes to help meet those goals.

Personally I think New Years resolutions are stupid, which is why I made sure to have the bulk of this plan in place back in October (#loophole).

In 2017 I said I was coming out of retirement. The 2+ years of not training but still suffering through the occasional race just to prove I could had gotten to me. The short version of 2017 is that it didn’t go 100% to plan.

The biggest flop was chalking up my first DNF at Steelhead 70.3 because apparently I forgot the mechanics of breathing while swimming and got fished out of Lake Michigan.

The big goal for 2018 is Ironman Louisville. While it sounds like quite a leap after near drowning, I do love having a go big or go home attitude. I twisted the arm of my racing partner and Chairman of Bad Ideas Adam to register as well.

And because I like to do things completely backwards, I registered for Louisville first and then loaded the calendar with 11ish other races before it. You can see the complete list here.

Sure blindly signing up for events on the tails of a “comeback” year isn’t that smart. But luckily I know some smart people who are willing to help! Cue Coach Jen Harrison!

Once again Jen has agreed to coach me through this tangled web of races, which is some of the best news ever.

I feel like having a lot of events takes the boredom out of training. It’s always fun to hop on a bike and just go without having to do a prescribed workout. But when there is a race around every corner, you know you NEED that workout to survive.

So here is to all the training & races of 2018! If you’re going to be at any of those events, let me know!

Now for the future of this blog. I think it needs to be modernized. I did the writing thing for a while and I got tired of it. So 2018 is going to be the year of video!

I’ll still write here or there. And the videos won’t be Apatow style in length. But since I haven’t made any television in a long time now, I feel like it’s time to get back at editing. I used to be pretty ok at it!

I’ll post all the videos directly on this blog, but they’ll also live on my YouTube and Instagram pages.

That’s it for now.
