Finding a Road Bike… The Search Begins!

I need a bike. It’s a fact. For the time being I’ve been using my old GT Mountain bike, I got it as a birthday present when I was a freshman in high school. The gears don’t shift properly and there is a noise coming from the peddles than can sometimes rival the sound my coffee grinder makes.

Needless to say, I’m not going to use it in at Mooseman. But being that I know NOTHING about cycling, I needed some help. Everybody’s good friend Dave from Pace of Chicago referred me to Vision Quest Coaching in Highland Park to talk to Owner and Pro-cycllist Robbie Ventura.
Robbie was nice enough to walk us around Trek of Highland Park and give some pointers on what to look for in a road bike. He also talked about some other pieces of gear I will need.
Here is part one of our two part series with Robbie, Vision Quest Coaching and Trek of Highland Park.

Robbie suggested I look in to the Madone 3 series.

Just to compare, or start comparing, I hit up Running Away Multisport in Deerfield and talked to store manager Derek. He told me about the Felt AR5 and Z5. He said they’re both comparable bikes to the Madone. The Cervelo RS and the S2 were also on his list of rides to check out.

Both Derek and Robbie stressed the importance of getting fit to REALLY make sure you’re getting exactly what you need.
